Hankyu Railway: From Umeda to Kotoen

All stations in Japan are numbered, like “HK01” for the Hankyu Umeda station. Look for those numbers beside the station names on the signboards on the tracks or maps on the train.

From Umeda to Kotoen is 20-25 minutes, and costs 270 yen (whichever train you take). For how to ride trains cashless, go to How to ride trains/busses cashless in Kansai .

① UMEDA STATION

Be prepared. This is a complex area. First, be sure to find HANKYU Umeda station. There are other stations for Hanshin, JR, and Osaka Metro nearby. For the street view of Umeda Station, click here.

All tracks in Hankyu Umeda station are on the third floor of the station building. In order to go there, you can use ticket gates either on the second floor (2F) or the third floor (3F). If you use the second-floor gates, you go up the stairs or escalators inside the gates to go to tracks.

② Find KOBE LINE trains

Touch your card or insert your ticket when going through one of the ticket gates. After going through the  gates on the 3F (or through the gates on the 2nd floor and then up the stairs to the 3F), proceed to the left, to the tracks #7, #8, and #9 for the Kobe line. All trains departing from those tracks go to Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi (see next). Express trains go there 4-6 minutes faster than local trains.

Look for the track number (in blue circles) of the next train on a signboard for Tracks #7, 8, and 9.

③ Change trains at Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi

Change trains at Nishinomiya-kitaguchi (HK08), the 7th station by local train, the third station by express train and the second station by limited express train.

After getting off, go upstairs to the concourse to go to another track. Don’t go out of the station. You will transfer to a train on Imazu line (for Takarazuka), Tracks #6 and #7 (Look for those numbers in blue circles). The stairs leading down to tracks #6 and #7 are found near the north ticket gates. Caution: Do NOT use Track 5. All trains departing from Tracks 6 and 7 go to Kotoen.

④ KOTOEN

Get off at Kotoen (HK24), the second station from Nishinomiya-kitaguchi.

Go up to the main ticket gate to exit.
